When You Hide
There were two sisters. When I found this super 8 I tried to find her there but her presence was always mediated or in shadow. Her sister is there, performing at Expo Osaka in 1970, all smiles and swirls. She is the one who is being filmed and celebrated but the one I am looking for eludes me, unseen by circumstance and choice. Anne Sexton’s poem “Those Times” speaks of a childhood spent in shadows.
